Ringtones
A ringtone is the sound made by a telephone to indicate an incoming call or text message. At its core, a ringtone is simply a computer program stored on the cell phone's memory chip. This program's sole purpose in life is to tell the microprocessor what the phone's speaker system should do when the phone's receiver picks up an incoming call.
Types of ringtones
There are some two to four types in ringtones, of which only two are famous. They are Monophonic and Polyphonic.
Monophonic Ringtone
A monophonic ring tone is simply a series of musical notes, one note at a time.
Polyphonic Ringtone
A polyphonic ring tone can consist of several notes at a time. The first polyphonic ring tones used sequenced recording methods such as MIDI.
The latest fashion in the ringtone world is True Tone. A true tone is also known as Realtone, Mastertone or Superphonic ringtone. A true tone is simply an audio recording, typically in a common format such as MP3.
Cell phone manufacturers have developed several ringtone formats. The phones such as Nokia or Motorola could support any one type of ringtone. It is mandatory to check whether your phone supports the particular ringtone format before you try to get the ringtone for your phone.
There are different ways to add ringtones to your mobile phone- Check for a melody composer in your phone. Check the owner’s manual and look for words such as “Ringtone Composer”, “My melodies”, ”Melody Composer” or other similar terms and you can compose your own ringtone.
- You can get it through wireless. That is with the help of Bluetooth or infrared, if you have the facility in your phone.
- You can transfer the ringtones from your PC using a data cable.
- Some cell phone manufacturers provide an option to download the ringtones in their website.
Today there is a lot of websites which provide an option to download ringtones. The ringtones available in those websites are so different. You could find songs, dialogs, film music, funny sounds, voices of personalities, quotes, etc in those websites. Some websites offer this service for free while some other websites might cost according to the size and format of the ringtone. Funny ringtones are the most preferred choice of the youngsters whereas devotional ringtones are much preferred by older people who are spiritually inclined.
